Hop off the fence

If you’ve been on the fence about working with a professional organizer, I’d like to share three reasons why you’ll find it worth your while.

1. Accountability

Once you reach out and schedule a date, you’ve got it on the calendar. You’ll be much less likely to say to yourself “Eh, that [closet, garage, pile, etc.] can wait another week.” You’ll know the organizer is coming and that the time has come to get things done!

2.    Fresh eyes & new ideas
Especially if you’ve lived in hour house for a while, it’s easy to develop “home blindness.” That’s when there are areas or things or situations in your house that you have lived with for so long that you don’t really even see them anymore. I experienced this myself this summer as I was working on painting the outside of our house. We had gotten so used to the faded paint color that we didn’t even realize how hideous it had become. You could not even tell I was painting the house the exact same color. The colors looked like shades from opposite sides of the color wheel!

A professional organizer can help you see your surroundings through fresh eyes, and can offer suggestions for storage, organization and maintenance processes that maybe you haven’t thought of.

3.     Extreme enthusiasm
Purging, sorting and ordering can involve lots of decision making, and that can be quite tiring. Decision fatigue is real! But professional organizers love doing these things. They don’t have the same strong emotional ties to your things that you do, so that gives them a sort of force field. They won’t get mired in memories and can provide boundless support and enthusiasm for your project.
