Frequent Wonderings

  • Why should I work with a professional organizer?

Organizing is generally not a skill that is taught, but it’s definitely one that can be learned. Professional organizers often have taken classes and have experience with a variety of situations and organizational challenges. They can provide new ideas, motivation & support to help you tackle your particular issue. It’s important to note that a professional organizer is NOT a cleaning service, interior designer, mover or hauler.

  • What is it like to work with a professional organizer?

Though many professional organizers use the same tools and tricks, each has their own personality and way of doing things. Opening your home to someone and sharing your organizational struggles can be a bit daunting. It’s important to make sure you and your organizer are a good fit. Expect to talk about your situation, how you got there & what your goals are. Typically, you and the organizer will work together toward that goal.

  • Will I have to throw lots of things away?

Not necessarily. We’ll take a close look at the things you have & the space they’re in. We’ll talk about how you feel about your things and how they are or are not serving you. If you have enough space to store your things in a way that meets your goal, we might just need to better organize and contain what’s there.

  • Can you help my spouse/roommate/other person in my life?

Much like dieting, organization won’t be effective unless someone has a personal desire to do it. That being said, I’d be happy to chat with you and your person about organizing, look at the space/organizing challenge together & talk about options.

  • How long will it take?

The answer really depends on you. First we’ll talk through your situation and come up with a plan of attack. If you feel comfortable tackling some tasks on your own, the project may speed along a bit faster. We can work together on a timeline, which can be adjusted as needed.

  • My closet/kitchen/garage is such a mess. I'm sure you've never seen worse!

I have seen all kinds of disorganized spaces. But what something looks like to me does not matter as much as how it works for you.
