Double the pleasure, double the fun!

Do you ever wish there were two of you? How much faster could you wash the dishes, do the laundry, or cook dinner if you had a double to share the work?

An organizer can make this magic happen! Not literally, but via a tool called “body doubling.” Add.org defines body doubling as “a productivity strategy used by individuals with ADHD to finish possibly annoying jobs while having another person (the body double) beside them.” But anyone can benefit from body doubling. People often tell me:

“I am so much more productive when you’re here.”
“You help me stay focused.”
“It just helps to have you sitting there.”


That’s body doubling in action!


One client had many stacks of mail they needed to get through. It was a task she dreaded, so as soon as she’d start, she was lured by distractions. With a body double sitting nearby, the client was finally able to get through all the mail. When she’d look up from her pile of envelopes and see me sitting there, I was a visual reminder of the task at hand. I also offered gentle encouragement, and was ready with suggestions about how to handle certain items, so we could keep the job moving forward.

 

A body double can keep you on task, keep you accountable, and ultimately help you be more productive.
